Christmas decoration ideas for small homes

What better way to set the mood for the holiday season than a Christmas tree? Bringing back happy memories of family reunions during the festive period and presents sitting inviting underneath. But living in the centre of a big city usually means you don’t have the spare space at home to fit a tree, the tinsel and the accompanying baubles!

But don’t be discouraged from getting the decorations out altogether. At Shurgard we have been scouring the internet for alternative ideas, and thought we would share with you our top picks to substitute the traditional Christmas tree whilst still keeping the mood festive. The big plus? They are super easy to do and won’t break your Xmas shopping budget.

1. Christmas in a jar

All you need is a few metres of Christmas lights, one large or several small empty jars or bottles. Stuff the lights inside the containers, plug ’em in and voila, instant Christmas sparkle!

You can also use copper wire lights instead of Christmas lights. They will be less bright but they will give a more fairly-tale-like feel:

2. Christmas snow globes

These are easy enough to make. You will need one or more mason jars of different size, mini Christmas trees, some fake snow (crushed foam, white sugar or salt) and some glue.

3. Bauble jars

There is literally no craft skill required for this one. All you have to do is collect a few vases and fill them up with Christmas baubles. You can either mix the colours or separate them, whichever way you like!

4. Christmas display

Use whatever you’ve got at hand and your imagination. A couple of jars, tree branches, a candle, some pine cones  are all you need to put together a simple, yet modern and romantic, Christmas display.
