5 Top Cramming Tips

It doesn’t matter whether you’re studying for your A levels or for a master’s degree – being a student isn’t always easy.

We live in a hyper-connected digital world with a seemingly endless number of distractions. And if we become overwhelmed with the subject matter we’re trying to cram for, procrastination makes a pretty good coping mechanism.

So if this is your ninth kitchen break, it’s time to read our top revision tips:

Plan

Like most things in life, preparation is vital.

Before a study session, create a schedule, carving out time for regular breaks as well as ample time on each area of knowledge you need to study.

Focus on one or two areas to give yourself the best possible chance of absorbing the information – and stick to your schedule religiously.

Stay hydrated

This might seem completely obvious, but many students overlook water when it comes to revision and study.

A recent study has shown that mild dehydration can lead to a major loss of attention. So make sure you drink water throughout your study session to maintain solid hydration levels and keep focus.

Take plenty of breaks

Simply stand up, stretch your body and enjoy a well-earned – and planned – break every now and then.

Taking up to four three-minute breaks every hour will keep your mind supple and help you retain more information as a result – which is what you want.

Rock out

Music not only boosts motivation during revision, but by playing the music you like while cramming, you’ll be able to snap into a hyper-focused, almost zen-like state of mind.

Try it out and do put on headphones. Otherwise you might end up being very unpopular with your fellow students!

Tech

We live in a digital age that has evolved massively, and as such, there are some study apps and developments out there that can help you remain focused and enhance your study sessions.

While your smartphone may be your sworn enemy during a cramming session, good study apps could potentially help you retain the information that is most valuable to you. Worth checking out.

And remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day, so don’t be too hard on yourself. Allow plenty of time before your exams, follow these tips, don’t be afraid to reward yourself once in a while.
